چکیده

-Human problem solving is done within a context, which constrains the solution space. There have been growing interests in computational modeling of contextual knowledge representation and context-based problem solving. There are different approaches to exploring the concept of context and corresponding computational mechanism for representing and utilizing the contextual model, both formal and empirical based on different interpretations of the notion. This paper explores and discusses some aspects of the computational mechanism for contexts, and proposes a goal-directed framework for context-based problem solving. In this model, a context is defined in terms of an object and its relationships with other objects. Every context is centered at such an object, and cannot exist without it. A problem-solving task (e.g. find an object) with this framework can thus be defined as a process of determining a context or a sequence of contexts in which a solution path (e.g. steps for finding the object) can be decided. A set of operations is specified for context manipulation. The questions the author tries to answer are: what is context, how can contexts be formed and manipulated, and how can contexts be used in reasoning and problem solving.

Exploring EFL Learners’ Autonomy in Reading Comprehension: Computer-Assisted versus Conventional Contexts

This study explored the autonomy of advanced English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners in reading comprehension through scaffolding and jigsaw in computer-assisted and conventional contexts. After being homogenized through the reading section of DIALANG proficiency test, a total of 80 female advanced EFL learners with the age range of 21 to 45 were selected as the participants of the study. ...

A Note on Exploring Rationality in Games

The received concept of strategic (game-theoretic) rationality is attended by a formidable list of paradoxes, anomalies, and empirical failures. This paper reviews three well-known and problematic decision contexts and diagnoses as a common source of difficulty the failure in the received view of rationality to adequately recognize risk-return tradeoffs. This diagnosis is then supported by comp...

Exploring Sonic Interaction with Artifacts in Everyday Contexts

This workshop aims to introduce ICAD participants to the use of creative interaction design methods when exploring the design of sonic interactions with computational artefacts. Specifically, focus will be on physical interactions that rely on continuous sonic feedback. Participants will generate future scenarios and concepts for such interactions, and everyday sounding objects in context will ...
